Kamwangi Coffee Washing Station is located in Gichugu Division, Kirinyaga County. The factory is fortunate to be connected to the national power grid and has abundant water resources for washing, with the nearby Nyamindi River serving as its water source.
Kamwangi is under the New Ngariama Farmers’ Cooperative Society (FCS). These factories are essentially small washing stations established in specific areas, affiliated with the larger cooperative—FCS.
The factory is equipped with wet processing equipment, washing/fermentation tanks, and raised drying beds, where coffee beans undergo the entire process from processing to drying as parchment coffee (with careful grading carried out throughout the process).
Kamwangi is fitted with a water recycling system and eight wastewater soaking ponds to minimize environmental impact.
Farmers in Kamwangi mainly grow coffee varieties SL-28, SL-34, and Ruiru 11. Benefiting from the red volcanic soils of Mount Kenya, most of the coffee farms are situated at elevations above 1,800 meters above sea level.
