Ndiara is located about 140 kilometers northwest of Nairobi, in the northern Muranga region of the Central Province. We don't usually pay much attention to Muranga coffee because its flavour is often less complexed than that of the Nyeri region. However, the Muranga region is a fertile agricultural oasis on the slopes of the Aberdare Mountains. At an altitude of 1770 meters, Ndiara boasts fertile, deep, well-drained volcanic soil rich in organic matters, beneficial to coffee growth. Like other high-quality cooperatives in Muranga, farmers typically hand-sort coffee cherries before sending them for processing, removing unriped or overriped coffee to avoid affecting the taste. Small details like these have a significant impact on the final quality of the coffee. They are members of the Kiro Farmers Cooperative (FCS), which recently implemented a digital system to track coffee deliveries and payments for its 4,800 farmers. This is good news for coffee farmers because even if they lose receipts after delivering coffee cherries, they now have electronic backups. This is from AA grade coffee beans, which are the largest, ranging from 17/64 inches to 19/64 inches. While sieve size doesn't necessarily indicate better coffee flavor, AA grade coffee beans are the most expensive.
